I didn’t grow up dreaming of being a writer. Actually, during most of my high school and college years I came to even dislike it. But I love it now 💛 You may have a writer in your life, or maybe you are the writer. Encourage that love of writing with Christmas gifts that inspire the author within!

Christmas Gifts for Writers

Books on writing.

These are known in writing circles as some of the top books on writing and the writing life.

Great Journals

Yes, these are more expensive than a spiral notebook, but they are of high quality. The paper is smooth to write on, and the Leuchtturm includes a a Table of Contents at the beginning and has page numbers printed in it.

Writing Tools

Frixion pens are erasable 💛 (But the ink can disappear if left in a hot car. No worries if this happens though. Put the paper in the freezer and it will reappear.) And flair felt tip pens write smoothly with rich colors.

For the Future Graphic Novelist

Laptop

I learned to type on an IBM typewriting in 9th grade. We wrote our senior research papers by hand with footnotes on each page. And if we messed up we had to redo the entire page. Yes, it is no wonder I didn’t like writing then. But our kids (perhaps even you) have never known a time when writing wasn’t done on the computer. Having a laptop seems to be almost expected.

There are so many options at so many price points. We love Macs in our family and our sons used our older ones until college. So my top pick is the MacBook Air. I’m sure your writer would love it 😉 But the truth is, most laptops today—ones that are much less expensive— will give your students all they need.

Scrivener 3

Scrivener is the go-to app for writers of all kinds, used every day by best-selling novelists, screenwriters, non-fiction writers, students, academics, lawyers, journalists, translators and more. Scrivener won’t tell you how to write—it simply provides everything you need to start writing and keep writing.

I love this software! This isn’t an affiliate link, but I know you aspiring writing will love it.

A Book Stand

Perfect for the non-fiction writer who needs to do a little research.

Mugs

Any serious writer has to have a great mug 😉 And if they are like me, they like to sip on their coffee or tea slowly, which is why I recommend pairing a mug with a small hot plate.

RTIC

If your writer prefers cold drinks or something to take on the go, RTIC’s are my favorite! They are more affordable then Yeti, but do the job perfectly for keeping cold drinks cold and hot drinks hot. I love the 30 oz size for my cold drinks, and the 20 0z for coffee or hot tea.

Writers are Readers

You may have heard the saying, “Writers are readers”  and it is true. Just like we learn to talk by listening to people speak, we learn to write by copying the written word and reading.

I’ve had both a Fire HD and multiple kindle E-Readers. My favorite is the Kindle Paperwhite.
